God sees your Heart

My favorite verse from scripture this week!

I know you
God does not see as human beings see; they look at appearances but the Lord looks at the heart.- 1 Sam 16:76

Those who are visually impaired have an advantage over those who are not.  They don’t live by appearances, so they take their time getting to know someone.  They don’t judge on sight.   They see and learn through the heart.
It is easy for us to judge a person by his appearance or by his gestures and reactions. The Lord wants us to start judging not by appearances but by the heart.   He knows us well.  And He knows we tend to see things for what they appear to be, rather than as they really are.
How many times we stereotype, categorize or put people in a box? Every time we do so, we become blind because we see only the appearance. We are being judgmental; by failing to look deeper into the person. We don’t have the slightest idea what that person may be going through. Let us ask ourselves if we look for the presence of God and try to see the world the way that God sees it?

Every time I see myself looking at appearances,  I pray The Jesus Prayer, “O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner,” and I ask Him to help me see with His loving heart. Amen
